Now reopened after a meticulous five-year restoration, Notre-Dame stands as a masterpiece of French Gothic architecture and a symbol of Paris’s enduring spirit. The roof and spire, interior elements such as the stained-glass windows and organ, and key structural repairs have given rise to the Notre-Dame Cathedral in new and inspiring light.
French Gothic at its finest
Notre-Dame epitomizes the French Gothic style that emerged in the 12th century. With its pointed arches, ribbed vaults, and vast tinted windows, the cathedral achieves a breathtaking blend of height and light. These elements, coupled with its ornate sculptures depicting biblical tales, make it a visual and spiritual marvel, embodying centuries of architectural innovation and craftsmanship.
Quasimodo’s cathedral in art and culture
Notre-Dame's influence extends far beyond its walls. Victor Hugo’s The Hunchback of Notre-Dame immortalized the cathedral, spurring a renewed appreciation for its grandeur. Its beauty has inspired artists like Claude Monet and Camille Pissarro, while its unmistakable silhouette has graced films like Ratatouille, Midnight in Paris, and The Devil Wears Prada.
Home of Christianity’s most sacred relics
Notre-Dame remains a profound symbol of Christian faith and a focal point of Catholic life as the seat of the Archbishop of Paris. It houses significant relics, including the Crown of Thorns, believed to have been worn by Jesus Christ. Even after the devastating 2019 fire, it continues to embody hope, faith, and a deep spiritual connection for millions.
Things to know before you buy your tickets
The Notre-Dame Cathedral has reopened, welcoming visitors and pilgrims once again. Entry is free, and walk-ins are allowed, though lines can get very long, especially on weekends and during peak hours. To make your visit easier, you can choose reserved entry, which lets you select a specific time slot and includes a personal host to escort you directly to the cathedral’s reserved entrance, helping you start your tour smoothly.
To fully appreciate the cathedral's rich history and meticulous restoration, we highly recommend an interior guided tour. An interior guided tour of Notre-Dame offers an in-depth look at its stunning Gothic architecture, sacred art, and restoration progress. It's a rare chance to experience the cathedral’s spiritual and historical heart from within.
Feel like exploring the cathedral on your own but would like some context on the cultural significance of Notre-Dame? We have you covered with an outdoor guided tour. Led by a local expert, you’ll hear fascinating stories about Notre-Dame’s past, the devastating fire, and the five-year reconstruction, all outside the cathedral, before you explore the inside at your own pace.
Certain areas require separate tickets. Tickets to the Treasury are available for purchase on-site only. The Crypt, located in the square outside the cathedral, offers a fascinating glimpse into Paris’s layered past. Explore the archeological crypt with direct entry tickets.

Sculptures
Sculptures, including the famous Last Judgment and others that were damaged by the fire, have been carefully restored. Some pieces may have been relocated or repaired to be shown in a more protected way.
Restored Organ
The organ, which was also damaged by the fire, has undergone restoration. It is expected to be played during special services and concerts, adding to the cathedral’s musical heritage.
Preserved historical integrity
While significant restoration has taken place, the aim has been to preserve the cathedral's original Gothic features, including the stonework, arches, and vaults. The overall architectural vision remains the same, honoring the cathedral's legacy as one of the most important Gothic structures in the world.

#I booked a Seine River cruise through Headout and had a great experience overall. The booking was quick and easy with instant mobile tickets, and boarding was smooth.
The cruise offered beautiful views of Paris landmarks like the Eiffel Tower, Louvre, and Notre-Dame, especially at sunset/evening when the city looks amazing from the water.
It was a bit crowded, so getting a good spot on the upper deck required arriving early.
Overall, it’s a simple and memorable way to see Paris from a different perspective and worth doing for first-time visitors.
